An area legislator is voicing his opposition to a Senate proposal to do away with several elected county positions.
Republican State Representative Trent LeDoux says the bill was introduced last week, and he will stand against it(Play Audio :33 seconds)
Meanwhile, LeDoux has introduced legislation which would inherently hold county appraisers accountable to the voting public(Play Audio :26 seconds)
LeDoux says the decisions made by county appraisers have far too much impact to be left to one person accountable only to the County Commission(Play Audio :34 seconds)
The Holton Republican say he's looking for relief from the high property taxes in Kansas, which he says remain higher than surrounding states.
In fact, in fiscal year 2011, property taxes as a percentage of gdp in Kansas was 6-point-two percent, one percent higher than all other bordering states.
