That follows the Brown County Sheriff's past role in the DEA sponsored National Take Back Day which allows for the safe collection, and disposal, of prescription medications.

Merchant says, along with the obvious reasons of removing addictive prescriptions, the program also allows for safe, environmentally correct disposal of all such drugs(Play Audio 28 secs)
Merchant says the formal implementation of prescription drug disposal at his office simply continues what the agency has been doing for sometime(Play Audio 28 secs)
In order to drop off unwanted prescriptions, Merchant says residents need only to bring them to the Sheriff's office in Hiawatha, where they will be safely secured.
