A contingent of leaders from northwest Missouri will descend on Jefferson City this week. Approximately 350 people from 18 counties will visit the capitol and make their voices heard to legislators during the annual Great Northwest Day this Tuesday and Wednesday.
Monica Bailey with the Atchison County Development Corporation is the co-Chair of this year’s Great Northwest Day and the Atchison County Coordinator for the event.
Bailey says the Great Northwest Day legislative platform includes three issues they’d like state legislators to address. (play audio :37)

During the Great Northwest Day, northwest Missouri leaders will be introduced on the floor of the Missouri House and the Missouri Senate. They’ll also meet with individual legislators, attend an educational luncheon, and an evening event to which all Missouri legislators and department heads have been invited. She says the Great Northwest Day has benefited the region over the years. (play audio :36)
Bailey says the Great Northwest Day grew out of a project called Leadership Northwest Missouri about 10 years ago.
