Centralia vs. Wetmore (Girl’s Varsity Semifinal)
"Player to Bank On": Dana Kramer (Wetmore) 16 points (hit game winning buzzer-beating shot)
It was a rematch of an earlier regular season matchup between the Centralia Panthers and Wetmore Cardinals. The Cardinals won that matchup 49-35, well this time around it wasn’t so easy for the Cardinals as they snuck away with the 42-41 victory in thrilling fashion. With 7.2 seconds left on the clock and down by one, Wetmore had the ball; they in-bounded it to junior guard, Dana Kramer who went into the paint hoisted up a shot at the buzzer and banked it home for the game winning shot. Kramer finished with game-high 16 points.
Right before the game-winner by Kramer, it was Vanessa Burdiek with a clutch 18-foot jump shot to give the Panthers the one-point lead. The game wavered back and forth throughout with neither squad taking bigger than a six-point lead. Centralia lead at the half by four, 21-17, but it was tied up at 30 going into the fourth quarter.
Three players finished in double figures for Centralia with sophomore, Vanessa Burdiek netting team-high 11 points for the Panthers in the loss. While only one player finished with double figures for Wetmore in the game that being, Kramer with her 16 points, including the game winning shot.
With the win Wetmore improved to 9-1 on the season and advances to the Twin Valley League tournament championship game on Saturday at 6:00pm, where they will face over against Washington County, who gave the Cardinals their only loss of the season. Centralia fell to 6-4 on the season with the loss.
