(KNZA)--A Topeka man, who was the focus of a Sunday morning Jackson County manhunt, is now being blamed for a rash of thefts from more than 30 Kansas locations.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says the new details emerge following the search of a Dodge Intrepid that 42-year-old Benjamin Braden is believed to have been driving. The vehicle had previously been stolen from the Sabetha area in Nemaha County.
Morse says recovered from the vehicle were identification cards, driver's licenses and credit cards belonging to 39 different individuals.
Also recovered were TV's, computers, car stereos, cellphones, speakers, iPads, tools, designer purses, backpacks, DVD's and CD's. Morse says detectives have determined the items were taken from at least 34 locations in Kansas.
A manhunt for Braden was launched Sunday morning after a domestic altercation was reported in Jackson County. He was found more than 3 hours later hiding in a hay barn and taken into custody with the assistance of a K-9 unit.
Braden is being held in the Jackson County Jail on $15,000 bond on charges of criminal threat, possession of stolen property and interference with law enforcement. Morse says additional charges are possible and Braden is also wanted on multiple outstanding warrants from across the state of Kansas.
