Rules and instructions for the 2016 county conservation speech contest have been delivered to area local Nemaha County High School Principals, and FFA leaders. The theme for the contest is “Local Heroes – Your Hardworking Pollinators”. The contest is open to all high school students in Nemaha County.
The county contest will be held October 19, 2016 at the Knights of Columbus Hall In Seneca. Two students from each school may enter and each student who presents their speech at our county contest will be awarded $25.00.
The winner of the county contest will compete in the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts (KACD) Area IV contest with 23 counties represented. The area contest will be held November 2, 2016 in Seneca, KS. This year KACD has also provided funds to offer cash awards as follows: 1st place $150; 2nd place $100 and 3rd place $50.
The area winner then competes at the KACD State Convention on November 21, 2016 in Wichita. Scholarships of $1000 for first place and $500 for second place as well as $250 for each honorable mention will be awarded at the state level.
