(KNZA)--A noon hour crash Thursday, south of Hiawatha on U.S. Highway 73 involving a car and a tractor trailer, left both vehicles totaled but no one hurt.
Brown County Undersheriff Randy Linck says it happened when 14-year-old Kimberly Korthanke, of rural Robinson, attempted to turn off the highway. At first she was going to turn right onto 200th Road but, realizing she needed to go the other way, she changed her mind and decided to turn left. As that happened, the southbound tractor trailer, driven by 32-year-old Fairview resident Joseph Rettele, attempted to pass Korthanke, with her last minute maneuver causing her car to collide with the side of the big rig.
Linck says despite the damage witnessed at the scene, both drivers managed to escape unharmed.
However, due to the wreckage at the scene, traffic on the highway was rerouted for well over an hour.
