Damage Still being Assessed in Brown Co

(KNZA)--Damage is still being assessed in Brown County from the recent heavy rains and flooding.

County and township officials met last Tuesday with representatives of FEMA and the Kansas Division of Emergency Management to learn what steps they will need to be take to receive possible financial assistance to repair damage to public infrastructure.

Commission Chairman Warren Ploeger said Monday he expects most of the assistance will go to the townships.

Ploeger said the damage wasn’t there in his district and doesn’t plan to turn anything in. He noted there must be 31-hundred dollars damage per site to receive assistance.

Commissioner Steve Roberts said he has a bridge that was damaged in his district that may qualify for assistance.

Meanwhile, Nemaha County Road and Bridge Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum said Monday he's estimating damage to county roads and bridges in his county would total about $461,000 from the recent flooding.
