LINCOLN, NEB., June 8, 2015 – The 5th Annual Veterans Freedom Music Festival will be held at the Department of Veterans Affairs clinic campus 600 S. 70th St, Lincoln, Neb., June 20.
The gates open at 10 a.m. The opening ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m., featuring the Homestead Harmonizers from Beatrice, Neb. The event culminates with a closing ceremony at 5 p.m.
This year’s festival is held in conjunction with a Welcome Home event, hosted by the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System. Welcome Home serves two purposes: it’s a VA information fair with myriad vendors from the Department of Veterans Affairs and community agencies that provide services to veterans. The event is also designed thank active-duty service members and veterans.
Veterans who are not enrolled in the VA health care system are encouraged to bring their DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Military Duty; VA staff will assist them with enrollment, if eligible.
There will be kids’ activities, including a play area, from noon to 4 p.m.
The music festival features the following bands: U.S. Air Force Heartland of America Band’s Vortex, Skylark, Chickn Fried Moses, Pinkertones, The Usual Suspects and Hayseed Cowboys.
The festival will be streamed live on www.VFMF.net. Come and participate in the live streaming and send a message to the troops. Admission and parking is FREE. You are invited to bring a can of food for the food bank.
For information about the music festival, call Dave Polson at 402-770-6013. For information about the Welcome Home, call Will Ackerman at 402-995-4719.
