(KNZA)--A Hiawatha man was seriously injured Monday morning in a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 36 Highway in Republic County about two miles east of Scandia.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 29-year-old Melvin Thomas Shafer II was westbound when his Jeep went off the right side of the roadway. Shafer overcorrected and went across the center line. He overcorrected again to the right and his Jeep left the roadway, rolling at least four times.
Shafer, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was ejected.
He was transported to the Republic County Hospital and later flown by helicopter to a Lincoln hospital with disabling injuries.
The wreck was reported about 9:45 Monday morning.
