(KNZA)--The recent heavy rains have created problems on a number of Doniphan County roads.
County Road Superintendent Bob Edie presented the County Commission Tuesday with a list of tube and road repairs needed due to the rains.
In light of the needed repairs, Edie suggested to the Commission that the county postpone chip sealing any roads this year, citing budget concerns.
Commissioner Terry Horner said he was not in favor of postponing the chip seal projects, as taxpayers living on hard surfaced roads deserve their roads fixed the same as taxpayers on gravel roads. In addition, he said if roads are not chip sealed this year, the cost will be higher next year to repair and chip seal twice as many miles.
The other two Commissioners requested that Edie compile a list of the costs to make the needed road repairs for their consideration prior to taking action on postponing this year’s chip seal projects. In addition, the Commission also requested Edie take pictures and document all road repair projects due to the heavy rainfall, for future reference should a state of emergency be declared.
