USD 113 Board Approves Additional Budget Reductions
04/30/2015

(KNZA)--Facing at least a $515,000 budget shortfall for next school year, the Prairie Hills USD 113 Board of Education during a special meeting Tuesday evening approved additional budget reductions.

Superintendent Todd Evans says the board voted to reduce one full-time Sabetha math position to a part-time position, reduce the Axtell Vo-Ag position from teaching 4 periods to teaching 3 periods, and reduce the Sabetha High School family and consumer science position from a full-time contract to teaching 4 periods per day.

In addition, the board voted to reduce the current extended day contracts for the district's media specialist by 50 percent. Also the board voted to provide some classified staff with an additional personal day and require them to take leave in order to be paid for scheduled days they don’t work.

Evans says the reductions along with numerous other reductions of expenditures reflect an anticipated savings of nearly $430,000.  He says the board plans to use about $300,000 in carry-over funds to finance anticipated expenditures next year.

The district will reach the end of its consolidated locked-in budget at the end of the current school year.
