(KNZA)--The Head Start Center in Troy is set to close.
That word is made public this week, with the closure to become effective May 1st.
It's made necessary because the current site has been sold, according to NEK-CAP Executive Director Jeanette Collier. “It's a very difficult decision to have to make,” Collier tells MSC News. “We spent about two months trying to locate a new facility that would meet our needs, but were unable to actually find one without having to make significant renovations which cost money.”
Collier says alternative locations are available for children. “Children who are eligible can still attend our Head Start program at either our north Brown or south Brown sites, so that would be either Hiawatha or Horton, or at our Atchison Center.'
The Early Head Start Home Based Services and Family and Community Resource Services will continue to be offered in Doniphan County despite the closing of the center.
No immediate decision regarding the location of staff has been determined.
