KS Jury Questionnaires Raise Concerns

(KNZA)--Questionnaires regarding Kansas jury duty are legitimate, and not a scam, despite some public concern to the contrary.

The explanation comes from the U.S. District Court District of Kansas in a notice posted online.

The statement says the Court is currently sending out jury qualification questionnaires to 60,000 registered Kansas voters. The process is completed every two years in order to compile a pool of qualified jurors who could be called to jury duty.

The Court states that during the underway first phase, would be jurors are able to provide their information through the use of a secure website. The only personal information being collected is the person's participant number, listed on the form being mailed out, as well as date of birth. No other information, such as social security numbers, will be collected. Paper filings are also available for those not wanting to use the electronic option.

The Court says the concern regarding legitimacy of the questionnaires can be expected in light of jury-related circulating scams, including one demanding payment after accusing would-be victims of missing jury duty. The Court's statement says legitimate contact regarding potential jurors will never request any type of payment or personal banking information.
