(KMZA)--The first round of grants for 2015 have been awarded by the Nemaha County-based STEP Foundation.
Among the recipients is the Albany Historical Society, where the provided $4,000 will be used in the effort to preserve and restore the Summit School. That structure was moved to the Albany grounds for use by a 4-H club. The funds will also be used to help cover the cost of roofing the Bern Depot replica building, with both projects expected to be completed this summer.
The City of Centralia is also named as a recipient of the STEP funds, with a $6,000 grant to be used to help fund the cost of upgrading equipment for the city park. The committee overseeing that effort has secured additional grants and is working with the community to raise additional funds for the project.
The STEP foundation awards grants twice each year, with the next deadline set for July 15th.
