(KMZA )--A bridge replacement project has begun on U.S. 77 Highway in Marshall County.
Work on the project began in late March over Swede Creek less than a mile north of the Riley County line.
The current 40-by-25 foot reinforced concrete arch span bridge will be replaced with a new 48-by 64-foot bridge.
Traffic over the bridge will be reduced to one lane throughout the duration of the project. Traffic will be directed across the bridge by concrete barrier and temporary traffic signals. There will be a 15-foot lane width restriction. Dogwood Lane will be completely closed to through traffic on both sides of U.S. 77 throughout the project duration.
The Kansas Department of Transportation say the bridge replacement project will be constructed in three phases.
Great bend-based L & M Contractors is the primary contractor on the nearly $2 million project. The project is scheduled for completion in November, weather allowing.
