(KNZA)--Brown County area motorists can expect delays as a crack seal project begins on U.S. Highway 73.
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, the work, getting underway now, will stretch for 23-miles, from the north city limits of Horton to the Kansas/Nebraska state line, excluding the stretch of highway that runs through Hiawatha.
The work, which includes the filling of cracks in the roadway pavement, means that northbound and southbound 73 will be reduced to one open lane for both directions, in several mile increments, beginning at the north city limits of Horton. Crews will work to the north to the state line and then return south in the remaining lane until they reach Horton's north city limits.
Drivers should expect delays up to 15 minutes, and are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible.
Work is scheduled for daylight hours Monday through Friday, with some Saturday work possible.
Completion is planned for May, if weather allows.
Scodeller Construction, Inc., of Lee's Summit, Missouri, is the primary contractor for the near $230,000 project.
