A little bit of trade show and a lot of science-based information is planned for Kansas State University’s 2015 Beef Cattle and Forage Crops Field Day in Mound Valley, Kansas on Thursday, May 7.

The day begins with registration and complimentary morning refreshments from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the Mound Valley Community Center, 505 Hickory. The program, sponsored by the K-State Southeast Agricultural Research Center, features presentations by K-State specialists, including:

• Johne’s Disease – Gregg Hanzlicek, Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory veterinarian;
• Forages for Summer Grazing - Joe Moyer, Southeast Agricultural Research Center forage agronomist;
• Spring Vs. Fall Calving on High Endophyte Fescue Pasture - Jaymelynn Farney, K-State Research and Extension southeast area beef specialist;
• Fertilization of Pasture for Optimum Production – Doug Shoup, K-State Research and Extension southeast area crops and soils specialist; and
• Supplementation of Grazing Stocker Cattle – Lyle Lomas, animal scientist and head of the Southeast Agricultural Research Center.

Participants can browse through displays by nearly 20 companies that serve the beef cattle and forage crops industries. Those companies will sponsor a lunch for all attendees.

An optional tour of K-State’s Mound Valley Unit will be offered after lunch, weather permitting.
