( KNZA)--In Brown County, voters in the Hiawatha school district gave overwhelming approval Tuesday to a $9.2 million bond issue to fund improvements to the district's schools. The bond issue was approved with 72 percent of the vote.
Provisional ballots could determine who win's the Hiawatha mayor's race. Unofficial results Tuesday night had current City Commissioner Steffen Shamburg defeating fellow Commissioner Bill Collins by only a three-vote margin 372 to 369. The Brown County Commission, meeting as the board of canvassers, will determine which provisional ballots to count when they meet Monday. A provisional ballot is used to record a vote when there are questions about a given voter's eligibility. 14 provisional ballots were cast Tuesday.
In Horton, Mayor Tim Lentz won re-election to another term with 58 percent of the vote over challenger Carol Barton.
Amy Kopp was elected to position 7 on the Hiawatha USD 415 Board of Education with 69 percent of the vote over challenger Brian Shefferd.
On the South Brown County USD 430 Board, Laurence Berger was elected to position 3 and Jason Smith to position 7.
Who will be the next mayor of Reserve is up in the air at this time as both incumbent Janice Sanders and challenger Brandon Ruch each received 11 votes.
Elected to the Everest City Council were Michael Monson, Charles George and Brian Rodvelt.
Roger Price was elected mayor of Morrill. Elected to the City Council were Todd Gruber, Daniel Halstead, Miles Ploeger, Roger Price and Robert Wahwasuck.
In Fairview, elected to the City Council were Bridget Stone, Art Vonderschmidt and Charlie Brockhoff.
In Robinson, Willard Enke was elected as mayor. Jerry Allen, Marsha Ganstrom, Mark Lieneman, Marvin Massey and Angie Muckey were elected to the council.
In Everest, Alfred Kimmi was elected mayor while Charlie George, Joshua Linck, Michael Monson and Brian Rodvelt were elected to the council.
Lamar Shoemaker was elected Willis mayor and Charlene Branch, David Hartley, Bonnie Jacobson and Delbert Jacobson elected to the council.
In Hamlin, David Shanon was elected as mayor and Kimberly Reed to the council.
In Powhattan, Vickie Schuetz won the mayor position. Lyle Chadwell, John Frayer, Luke Pollock and John Schuetz were voted to the council.
A 31 percent voter turnout was reported in Brown County.
The results are unofficial until the ballots are canvassed Monday
