ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Spring flowers aren't the only things popping up all over. As the weather begins to warm up, motorists are beginning to see more work zones on Missouri roadways. Safety is the Missouri Department of Transportation's number one priority, for both our workers and the traveling public. Part of our efforts to help everyone stay safe on Missouri roads includes the observance of National Work Zone Awareness Week, which is March 23 - 27.
This year MoDOT reminds everyone to "Pay Attention or Pay the Price." Highway workers spend their days working a short distance from fast-moving vehicles. They make every effort to work safely, but they count on motorists to pay attention, eliminate distractions, slow down, and use caution when driving through work zones, especially moving work zones for operations such as signing, striping, roadside work, pothole patching, etc.
In addition, we're asking all media to wear orange next week as much as possible in support of Work Zone Awareness Week, but especially on Wear Orange Wednesday, March 25.
