(KNZA)--A Hiawatha City Commissioner is urging residents to call the Union Pacific Railroad about the condition of the three railroad crossings in town.
Commissioner Irv Schwalm says the crossings are “ unsafe” and fears a car will get hung up and stuck on one of the crossings.
He’s urging residents to call the 800 number ( 1-800-848-8715) on the side of each metal shed besides the tracks on Iowa, Oregon and Miami. Callers will be asked to provide the DOT # on the metal shed.
Schwalm hopes calls from the public will persuade the railroad to fix the crossings.
Those with questions can contact Schwalm or the Hiawatha Police Department.
