Falls City Man Killed in Crash
03/15/2015

(KLZA)-- The Richardson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single-vehicle wreck over the weekend that claimed the life of a Falls City man.

The Sheriff's office says killed in the wreck that occurred either late Saturday night or early Sunday morning was 37-year-old William Lester.

The wreck was reported to the sheriff's office shortly after 12:30 Sunday morning on 648 Avenue about  a quarter mile south of the corner where Highway 73 meets Highway 67, which is known locally as the Palmer Corner.

According to the Sheriff’s Department report, it is believed a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Lester was traveling south on Highway 67 at a high rate of speed and for unknown reasons did not stop at the intersection of Highway 73 and 648 Avenue.  When the pickup started traveling on the gravel portion of 648 Avenue, the driver lost control of the truck.  The pickup went into the east side ditch then came back onto the roadway and rolled several times, coming to rest on its wheels.

Lester, who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on scene. An autopsy has been scheduled.

Lester was the only occupant of the pickup.

Responding to the scene of the crash were the Verdon Fire Department, Falls City Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Richardson County Attorney’s Office, Richardson County Highway Superintendent Scott Huppert as well as the Sheriff’s Office.
