(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Elementary School is seeking to become one of the first in Kansas to become an A+ School.
The USD 415 Board of Education this week voted to allow the elementary school to seek a grant that would help them join the A+ School program.
Originally started in North Carolina, the program utilizes a system of teaching that integrates the arts into every discipline, creating enhanced learning opportunities for all students.
Hiawatha Elementary School art teacher Kate Miller says the program has had a very successful track record in other states by increasing test scores, attendance and good student behavior.
Two Kansas schools will be picked April 10th as pilot schools for the program, which the state is trying to start.
