Auburn Council Approved Pre Pay of Street Bonds

(KLZA)-- The Auburn City Council has approved pre paying of city paving bonds in order to save money. Mayor Scott Kudrna explained the city will pay off one series of bonds that will save about $25,000 annually. About $165,000 in pre-pays will be made. The City of Auburn is hoping to receive a grant for a fire truck purchase that would allow the city to pre-pay another series of bonds saving an additional $30,000 annually.

The Council also voted to seek bids for armor coating of P and S Streets in Auburn. The cost for 10 blocks of armor coating is projected to be around $40,000 which is less than the City share had they went with concrete and put in curbs. The project had been shown in the 1 & 6 Year Plan as a paving project. That was amended in the plan.

A request for proposals to put in a fiber optic network in the city limits of Auburn will be handled by a committee. It will come back to the Council for final approval.

Permission to seek a grant for brochures concerning the Auburn Historic District was approved.

Despite making some adjustments to coverage and adding a couple buildings, the City Property and Casualty insurance will be decreasing now that the insurance will be purchased through the Nebraska League of Municipalities pool. The additions will be about $2,400 but the premium will be about $10,000 less than last year.

Council approval was also given to the City sponsoring an Auburn Community Olympics Event that will be in its second year. The City will pay a $100 rider for event insurance. A group of volunteers put the program on.

In other business the Auburn Council approved the appointment of Kent Rearson to the Board of Adjustment; approved closing the highways in Auburn for the parades during the Nemaha County Fair this summer and approved agreements with Southeast Nebraska Development District concerning an environmental review for the Housing Authority.
