(KNZA)--A St. Joseph man has been sentenced to nearly 6 years in federal prison for the attempted murder of a confidential informant.
KQ2-TV reports 21-year-old Justin Hill was handed the sentence Wednesday.
Hill pleaded guilty last year to attempting to kill the informant in retaliation for providing information to law enforcement officers. According to federal prosecutors, the informant told federal agents that Hill was bringing powder cocaine from Kansas City to St. Joseph. Hill was stopped and arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Hill later told the confidential source that he believed the source had informed law enforcement about the cocaine. On Aug. 30th, 2013, Hill rammed the confidential informant's vehicle with a Chevy Suburban near an intersection in St. Joseph. He then got out of his vehicle and fired six shots at the confidential informant.
