(KNZA)--Brown County is preparing for this summer’s chip and seal road projects.
The County Commission Monday accepted the low bid submitted by Kansas City, Missouri-based Vance Brothers for the purchase of about half-million gallons of RS-IH road oil for $1.86 a gallon delivered. The bid was among three received and was about 14 cents lower than the bid accepted last year.
Commission Chairman Warren Ploeger says the county plans to chip and seal about 100 miles of county road’s this year. The county also chip and seal’s streets for cities and tribe’s in the county.
In other business, the Commission accepted the lone bid submitted by C & D Hay for the right to harvest about 22-acres of brome hay at the county landfill this year for $1,000.
And Engineer Tom Bennett with BG Consultants, of Manhattan, presented the preliminary plans for the replacement of a bridge south of Sycamore Springs.
A bid letting hasn’t been set yet for the project.
