On Feb. 17-18 at the Kansas Department of Agriculture in Manhattan, Kansas, feed manufacturers from across the state participated in a Preventative Control and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points workshop. Representatives of pet food companies, ethanol plants, grain elevators, animal feed manufacturers, the Food and Drug Administration, the Kansas Department of Agriculture and Kansas State University attended the event.
Speakers included David Fairfield of the National Grain and Feed Association, Dr. Liz Boyle K-State Department of Animal Sciences and Industry, Dr. Subi Bhadriraju of K-State Department of Grain Science and Industry and Matt Frederking of Ralco Animal Nutrition. This event provided education for the 60 attendees for compliance with the final Food Safety Modernization Act rule expected to come out in August 2015.
“This workshop provided an opportunity for professionals in the animal feed industry to develop an understanding of HACCP plans for animal feeds and gain valuable information on how to prepare for the final FSMA ruling,” said Tim Tyson director for the Agriculture Commodities Assurance division of the Kansas Department of Agriculture.
This two-day workshop for the agribusiness industry is part of an ongoing effort by the Kansas Department of Agriculture to achieve the vision of ensuring a safe food supply, protecting natural resources, promoting public health and safety, protecting animal health, and providing consumer protection to the best of the agency’s ability.
