(KNZA)--An accused rapist is now in custody.
Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse says 35-year-old rural Netawaka resident Scott James Buchheit was arrested Tuesday night on a number of sex related crimes involving a minor child.
The arrest came hours after Buchheit allegedly fled from his residence, north of Netawaka, aboard a stolen Polaris Ranger, Tuesday afternoon.
An alert for public help in locating Buchheit was issued, and that apparently led to his decision to contact the Topeka Police Department who took him into custody at the Plaza Inn Motel on south Topeka Boulevard.
The stolen Polaris Ranger was located in a Topeka garage.
Buchheit is now facing five counts of rape, three counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, two counts of criminal sodomy, three counts of aggravated indecent solicitation, two counts of indecent solicitation, and felony theft.
As of Tuesday night, bond had not yet been set.
