Seneca Approves Power Agreement

(KMZA)--The city of Seneca will receive an allotment of hydroelectric power from the Western Area Power Administration for an additional 30 years.

City Administrator Matt Rehder says the City Council Wednesday evening approved an agreement between WAPA and the city, which extends the existing contract from 2024 to 2054.

He said WAPA is part of the electrical base load resource the city has received for years. Rehder said on any given day, the city currently receives a little over 6 megawatts of power that originates from a hydroelectric plant in Loveland, Colorado.

Rehder says there will be no change in price.

In other business, the Council approved an ordinance authorizing the issuance of up to $4.6 million in refunding revenue bonds on behalf of the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital.

The new bonds will provide funds to refund about $4 million of exisitng hospital revenue bonds issued in 2008 and will allow the hospital to take advantage of today’s lower interest rates.

The action doesn’t financially obligate the city.
