(KNZA)--The spelling skills of local youth will be tested Saturday, as both Jackson and Nemaha Counties hold spelling bees in the morning.
Nemaha County's is first, beginning at 8:30, as students from five schools gather at the County Courthouse in Seneca.
It's sponsored by the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, comprised of key women educators.
Jackson County's spelling bee will begin at 10, hosted by Royal Valley, at the Royal Valley Elementary School gymnasium in Hoyt.
Twelve students will compete.
The first and second place winners from each county competition will advance to the Topeka Capital Regional Spelling Bee on March 7th.
The champion will win an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the end of May.
