(KAIR)--Longtime Atchison High School mens basketball coach Chic Downing is set to receive special recognition for his nearly two decades of service to the school
Downing will be recognized along with approximately thirty of his former players during a special ceremony scheduled to be held at the school at approximately 5:30 Saturday afternoon, between varsity games.
Atchison High Athletic Director David Fitz says Downing coached at the school from 1975 until 1992. His teams appeared in the state tournament ten times, winning it four times.
Downing graduated from Atchison High School in 1968 and went on to be named an All American at Benedictine College before being drafted in the 11th round of the NBA draft by the New York Knicks in 1972.
