(KAIR)--A continuance has been granted in the case of an Atchison man accused of battery against a police officer.
20-year-old John Poff appeared in Atchison County District Court Monday afternoon, and Judge Martin Asher set a new appearance date for Friday morning, following a request from Poff's attorney.
Poff was arrested last month after Atchison EMS was dispatched to a residence located in the 300 block of Santa Fe Street for a report of an unconscious individual. Upon arrival, they discovered that Poff had regained consciousness and had started to verbally threaten them, along with the police officers who were called in to assist. During this confrontation, Poff allegedly struck one of the officers.
Poff remains in the Atchison County Jail, held on a $10,000 bond.
