(KMZA)--The Seneca City Council Wednesday evening held a condemnation hearing on what the city says is a derelict structure near the downtown.
Dr. David and Susan Bowman own the old dental office building at 30 North 5th Street. The Bowman's said the only damage to the building is a couple holes in the roof.
Mayor Joe Mitchell said the city has received complaints about the building, which were validated by the city's code enforcement officer.
The Bowman's offered to give the property to the city to demolish. After some discussion, the Council voted to table the resolution condemning the building in order to give the Bowman's time to find someone interested in the property the option to take the land and tear down the building.
In other business, the Council voted to enter into a contract with Marvin Planning Consultants of Kansas City to update the city's comprehensive development plan and zoning and subdivision regulations at a cost of $65,000. Work on the plan will begin on February 4th at 6 in the evening prior to the regular Council meeting.
The council voted to provide $6,000 to $6,500 to the city's volunteer fire department to help with their 125th anniversary celebration. The celebration will held on June 27, with the public invited to attend.
And the Council approved the appointment of Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Deiter as Municipal Judge. Deiter will replace Mike Riley, who resigned effective December 31st.
