(KAIR)--Several bridge projects in Atchison County are progressing as the year comes to a close.
According to County Commission Chair Jeff Schuele, County Road and Bridge Superintendent Matt Dorssom came before Commissioners during their meeting Tuesday afternoon to provide updates on several of those projects, including the Dalby Bottom Bridge, which Schuele said required some additional purchases before work could be started. The new bridge needs to be moved out of the Union Pacific Railroad right of way, and the Commission had to authorize a purchase order of $2,000 to make it happen.
Schuele adds that the bridge on 238th Road, near Ellsworth Road, which collapsed last month when an oversized combine tried to cross it, is also being replaced, despite a minor delay of one week to allow the county time to file the needed permit.
Dorssom also updated Commissioners on plans to solicit bids from various engineering companies to replace the bridge on Sherman Road. Schuele says the plan is to have that done by 2016.
