(KAIR)--Officials with the company that provides emergency medical services for Atchison County came before County Commissioners Tuesday afternoon to present their yearly update.
Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says those updates included services that Techs Inc, an ambulance service based out of Holton, provided to the county over the past year as well as any potential equipment upgrades for the coming year.
Schuele says the county owns the equipment, and currently has a three year contract to outsource it to Techs Inc. Next year is the final year of that contract, and Schuele says the Commission will have to evaluate next year on what to do long term with the EMS system, whether that is continuing with Techs Inc, or do what other counties in Kansas are doing and run their own EMS service. He adds that no matter what is decided, upgrades to the current EMS facility need to be addressed in the coming year.
Schuele did express concern over the maintenance schedule for the service's ambulances, asking if they could be staggered, so there would be less chance that two or more ambulances would be down at the same time. Tech Inc officials assured him this could be done.
