(KAIR)--The U.S. 73/K-7 pavement replacement and bridge replacement project in Leavenworth County will not reopen to traffic later this month as originally scheduled.
According to a release from the Kansas Department of Transportation, the project's primary contractor, KOSS construction has informed them that they will not be able to complete enough work to safely open U.S. 73/K-7 this calendar year.
Construction work is planned on the project through Friday before being suspended for the holidays. Work will resume January 5th.
KOSS construction plans to complete enough of the pavement work in January to open the roadway by the end of January. The project will then be suspended for the winter, and work will resume in mid April. KDOT is informing motorists that the current detour will remain in place through late January. Once the roadway is opened, the detour will be deactivated until work resumes in April.
The revised overall project completion date is now mid-summer of next year, weather permitting.
