(KNZA)--A former Leavenworth County fire chief has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $14,000 from his township.
The Leavenworth Times reports Jeff Theno of Basehor admitted Wednesday to stealing from Fairmont Township.
Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson says the former fire chief was paid last year to remodel the township's fire station but didn't complete the required work.
Theno is expected to get probation when he's sentenced January 28th. Thompson says he will request restitution in the case.
Theno stepped down as chief and retired from the fire department on July 29th of this year. He had served as fire chief more than 10 years.
