(KAIR)--Three Leavenworth area students may soon be on their way to two of the nation's four prestigious military academies.
Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins issued a press release Tuesday with the names of students from the second congressional district who she has nominated for appointment to the academies.
Jenkins' nominations included Fort Leavenworth students Connor Rayburn and Kristen Song who were nominated to attend the United States Air Force Academy, and Jacob Schatzel from Leavenworth, who was nominated to attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
Jenkins was aided in the nomination process by her non-partisan Military Academy Nominations Board. Her nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy. According to the press release, these nominees will now compete for selection to the class of 2020.
