(KNZA)--A Mayetta teen has entered a plea in a Jackson County child sex case.
County Attorney Shawna Miller says 16-year-old Weston Hasty pleaded “ no contest” Thursday in a Jackson County courtroom to two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child under 14. In exchange for the plea, an additional count was dismissed.
Sentencing was set for January 7th.
Authorities say Hasty committed the crimes in June at a Mayetta child care facility operated by his mother.
Last month, a judge denied a motion filed by Miller for Hasty to be tried as an adult. However, the court did grant extended juvenile jurisdiction, meaning that Hasty will receive both a juvenile and adult sentence. If he successfully completes the juvenile sentence, he will avoid adult penalties.
