(KNZA)--The Hiawatha City Commission was asked Monday evening to reconsider the rate charged for use of the Fisher Center.
Resident Pauline Blanton told Commissioners that for the past 14 or 15 years she has rented the north loft for family gatherings Christmas eve and Christmas day at a cost of $15 an hour. However, Blanton says she is now expected to pay $30 an hour, which she says she can’t afford and doesn’t want to ask her family to help pay for.
Mayor Crosby Gernon said even at the current rates the city isn’t making money and is having to subsidize the facility every year.
The Commission last year approved a new pricing policy for the facility. Fisher Center Director Grover Hargrove said he believes it’s a fair policy.
Based on the commission's silence, a rate change is unlikely.
