(KNZA)--Hiawatha Elementary and Middle School students will soon have more technology at their fingertips.
The Board of Education Monday evening accepted bids for the purchase of 100 LearnPads for the elementary school and 100 Chromebooks for the middle School along with the related carts and accessories for a total cost of just over $78,000 ( $78,325).
With the purchase, Superintendent Penny Hargrove says twenty-five devices will available at each grade level, kindergarten though 8th grade.
The LearnPads are currently being used at the elementary school. Hargrove says the devices are similar to the iPad, but are more affordable and education friendly. She says Chromebooks are an internet based tablet, and are able to use all the apps available for education.
The majority of the funding for the new devices will come from Title I and grant funds.
