(KLZA)-- The Auburn City Council has approved continuing with the interlocal agreement for the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement for the City. The City will pay $306,000 for the next year, an increase from $283,000 last year. Raises and other associated costs necessitate the increase.
The Council also approved the bid for construction of the Longs Creek Trail Project. The bid was awarded to K-2 Construction of Lincoln in an amount of $386,936. Engineers had estimated the cost at $343,000. Auburn received a grant to pay 80-perecnt of the cost making the City of Auburn responsible for approximately $77,000 of the total cost. The City had budgeted $100,000 as the City share of the project.
Construction on the trial should begin in the spring.
Jay Hauserman with the Auburn Airport Authority provided an update to the Council on improvements at the Airport. Preliminary work is being done on the two projects, which include paving the runway and building a new hangar. Currently engineering work for the runway is being done and will then be submitted to the State of Nebraska to determine if federal grant monies will be issued for the project.
The Airport Authority has also agreed to increase the amount of funding they can provide for the project to $52,000. Originally the Authority was going to contribute $25,000 toward the project.
Unanimous approval was given to an ordinance amending the City of Auburn zoning, designating certain areas of downtown and Courthouse Square as an Historic District. The action followed a public hearing drawing no public comment.
