(KNZA)--A Hiawatha man convicted on charges arising from a violent domestic incident in March has been placed on probation.
Manuel Nunez was given a suspended prison sentence Monday in Brown County District Court on charges of aggravated battery, criminal threat and possession of marijuana. He was then placed on 24-months supervised probation.
Nunez pleaded no contest to the charges in August. In exchange for the plea, charges of aggravated assault and interference with law enforcement were dismissed.
He was arrested March 29th after law enforcement officers responded to a domestic call. Authorities say Nunez beat his wife with a rifle. He then verbally threatened Brown County Sheriff John Merchant as officers were talking him out of threats to end his own life.
