(KNZA)--Enrollment is up this school year in the Hiawatha school district.
Board Clerk Leslie Grimm said the official enrollment count taken on September 22nd shows the district has 882 students in pre-k through 12th grade, up 33 students over last year.
Grimm told the board of education Monday evening the district's full time equivalency figure, which is what state aid is based on, is up 19.8 students over last year. She said the enrollment increase will mean about $100,000 in additional state aid for the district.
Grimm said every grade level saw an enrollment gain.
Superintendent Penny Hargrove said it's good news for the district, and so much better than last school year when the district saw a double digit enrollment decline.
