(KNZA)--Construction is progressing on a walking and biking trail in Hiawatha.
City Administrator Mike Nichols provided an update to city commissioners Monday evening.
Nichols said the contractor will start pouring concrete next week. As of Friday, he said the contractor was on the 21st day of the project, which is scheduled for 81 working days, with the project expected to be completed on schedule.
The trail will connect key elements in the eastern portion of the city, running from near the Little Hands Day Care Center, north past the Fisher Center, and looping around the middle and high schools.
Kansas City-based Amino Brothers Company is the contractor on the just over $915,000 project.
The Kansas Department of Transportation will fund 80 percent of the construction cost. The city’s share, with construction observation included, will be about $208,000.
