TOPEKA, Kan. (AP)—Authorities say they've taken a second man into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a Topeka police officer.
The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office said the man was booked into the county jail Monday after being found in Linwood, about 35 miles east of Topeka. Investigators say the man might have information about the killing.
Authorities already have a 30-year-old man in custody in the death Sunday of Topeka Police Cpl. Jason Harwood. The 40-year-old decorated police veteran was shot during a car stop in east Topeka.
The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation and said the first man in custody acknowledged some involvement.
Gov. Sam Brownback ordered flags in Shawnee County to be flown at half-staff Monday and Tuesday to honor Harwood, a 15-year police veteran.
