(KAIR)--A Leavenworth doctor must repay nearly $12,000 to the Kansas Medicaid program after being found guilty of Medicaid fraud.
According to a statement released by Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, 71-year-old Adnan Ashkar pleaded no contest Wednesday to six felony counts, including one count of unlawful acts concerning computers, one count of making false claims to the Medicaid program, and four counts of obstruction of a Medicaid fraud investigation.
Leavenworth County District Judge Gunnar Sundby accepted the plea, and set a sentencing date for October 22nd. As part of the plea, Ashkar will also be barred from participation in the Medicaid program.
Ashkar was accused of billing Medicaid for services he did not perform, and altering patient records.
The case was jointly investigated by the Attorney General's Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Division, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
