(KAIR)--A plea deal has been reached regarding the case involving a former Atchison based truancy officer accused of improper sexual relations with a student.
29-year-old Heather Robinson appeared in Atchison County District Court Monday afternoon to enter a plea of no contest to two counts of unlawful sexual relations. In exchange for her plea, nine other counts of unlawful sexual relations were dropped.
Judge Martin Asher accepted the plea and set a sentencing date for September 15th.
According to Atchison County Attorney Jerry Kuckleman, Robinson could be sentenced to anywhere from 31 months to 136 months in prison on each of the charges. He says probation is possible, but the burden is on Robinson to prove that she is not a threat to the public. She would also have to show that there is a viable treatment plan available to address the issue.
Robinson was employed with the Leavenworth Department of Juvenile Services, and was assigned to Atchison's USD 409 as a truancy officer. According to Superintendent Susan Myers, she was placed on administrative leave by her employer on May 7th, and had not been in contact with the school district or it's students since then.
Authorities say that although the sexual activity with a 17-year-old student was consensual, state statute prohibits someone in Robinson's capacity to engage in such a relationship.
She was arrested on May 30th after an investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. She was released later that same day after posting a cash or surety bond of $50,000.

Sad that judge Asher accepted this plea & its sad she got off so easily! If it wouldve been a man the book wouldve been thrown at him! Guess when daddy is an officer and she herself was in that field somewhat, you get a lighter sentence. Atchison is & always will be corrupt!

As someone who resided there from birth until in my 30s I have to agree. There is so much truth in the previous comments. It depends on who you are, by your name, and what your connections are in that god forsaken place. It is soooo sad! The thing here is that they get certain ones and they pick on them forever. Then if you have enough clout-well you havecharacter flaws that obviously can be miraculously fixed. I personally know someone who was accused of conspiracy to commit murder. He Didnt know the murderer, buthe knew his whole life living there that he had no future, based on his last name. That is soooo sad. He took a deal, just because he seen another person charged with the same crime in the same case, get 2 years probation. He has been sitting in prison ever since, for many years now! He never even knew the person killed or the others involved. Yep that is the Atchison we all know. If you are poor, just check out of home when you are old enough and check into an instution, if you are rich and have an affluent name, well you can do anything you like. You will get away with it. Funny thing is in Atchison, you really dont know if the persons last name dictates who they really are. I am proof of that!
