(KTNC)--A new initiative is underway in Falls City, in an effort to develop new business and community leaders.
The Lane Leadership Program is an offshoot of Falls City Main Street and is being modeled after a similar program in Nebraska City. Main Street Director David Branch says they hope to use the program to develop future business and community leaders. He says participants will learn how to do things like work with boards, and about resources and businesses in the area, as well as the local history.
The program is limited to 10 adults. Participants will have to attend nine, full-day sessions over the course of the first year of the two-year class, which begins September 18. The sessions are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, October through May. Participants would also have to attend several board meetings – such as school board or city council meetings – outside of the scheduled sessions.
The class would work on a project in the second year of the program, and Branch says the program is meant to help people hone their leadership skills and become leaders in their business and community.
Applications for the program are available at the Falls City Library and Arts Center and at the Main Street office at 1705 Stone Street. Applications must be returned to the Main Street office by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, and tuition of $200 per participant must be paid by September 12. Applicants selected to participate in the program will be notified by September 5.
