(KAIR)--An Atchison man will spend over two years in prison in connection with a burglary at a local business that took place earlier this year.
33-year-old Michael McGuire appeared in Atchison County District Court Friday morning to hear his fate.
McGuire had plead guilty to one charge of possession of narcotics and one count of burglary of a non dwelling. In exchange for his plea, a charge of criminal damage to property was dropped.
Judge Martin Asher sentenced McGuire to thirty months in prison on the possession of narcotics charge and 27 months in prison for the burglary charge. Both sentences will run concurrently. McGuire was also sentenced to one year of supervised probation after his release.
McGuire was arrested May 14th after a traffic stop for a defective headlight. Police identified him as the same person who had broken into the Kex-Rx pharmacy earlier that day. The vehicle he was in had been reported stolen by its owner, and McGuire still had some of the drugs he had removed from the pharmacy in his possession.
